A 17-year-old pacer recalled his time when he dismissed Virat Kohli via bowled in the nets, only to get a cold stare from the legendary batter. The bowler bowled superbly in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy fixture to help his team win the contest on his Ranji Trophy debut.
Gurjapneet Singh, the left-arm pacer from Tamil Nadu, snared six wickets in the second innings during the game between Tamil Nadu and Saurashtra at the SNR College Cricket Ground in Coimbatore. His sensational spell helped Tamil Nadu register an emphatic victory by an innings and 70 runs over Saurashtra.

“After I bowled him, I looked at him and didn’t dare to look at him again. He was very, very angry. But I realised, he was angry with himself more than anything. And after a straight drive, he again looked at me and smiled,” exclaimed Gurjapneet to The Indian Express.
Virat Kohli’s advice to Gurjapneet Singh after the net session
Gurjapneet later revealed that after the net session, Kohli spared some time to give valuable insights to the young bowler. Kohli asked him to go around the wicket when there was no movement, for it would trouble batters more than over the wicket.
“He (Kohli) told me, when there is no movement, change the angle and try bowling around the wicket. Because with that angle, even if you manage to get slight movement, it will end up troubling most batsmen.”
Kohli’s advice did wonders for Gurjapneet, who followed the same pattern during the game against Saurashtra by going around the wicket, especially against Cheteshwar Pujara, on Sunday. He first bowled a bouncer to him before going slightly fuller.
Finally, he angled one into Pujara, and the ball moved away slightly to square up Pujara and get him LBW on a duck. It was a memorable debut from one of the most exciting pacers, and Gurjapneet will hope to sustain consistency in the coming games.
