Konnan is still dealing with a brutal health situation, but things are finally moving in a better direction.
TNA announced at Slammiversary 2026 that Konnan will be inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame, along with Amazing Red. That should have been a simple feel-good moment, but with everything Konnan has been going through, the announcement hit a lot harder.
Vince Russo recently claimed on the Coach and Bro Show that Konnan went through a double leg amputation and is now stuck in a grueling rehab process. Russo also claimed WWE stepped up and paid every cent of Konnan’s medical bills.
After Slammiversary, Bryan Alvarez brought up Konnan’s Hall of Fame announcement on Wrestling Observer Radio. Dave Meltzer said the honor makes sense, but he wasn’t sure Konnan would even be able to attend because of his condition. Meltzer said Konnan is still in rough shape, but the latest he heard is that the situation is no longer life-threatening.
“Man, I don’t know if he could go. I mean it’s like I can get it. I get why you would do it, you know, and it’s nice for him. Yeah, he’s in rough shape, but he is like, he’s not in life threatening shape. From what I’ve last heard, he’s doing better than he was before. I’m not sure if he’s still in the hospital but, you know, I mean he’s, you know, I mean it was life threatening for a long time. He was having all kinds of stuff that was bad, but he’s turned the corner from what I am told.”
That is still a scary update, but it is also the first real sign that Konnan may be past the worst of it. Konnan has not laid out every detail of his condition himself, and that is his call. What we do know is that he has been through hell, and now TNA is giving him a Hall of Fame spot while the wrestling world waits to see if he can make it there in person.
Konnan’s résumé is ridiculous. AAA, WCW, TNA, LAX, lucha libre, backstage influence, promos, booking, talent scouting — the guy has fingerprints all over the business. That Hall of Fame spot is not charity. He earned it a long time ago.
TNA honoring Konnan now feels bigger than a normal induction. It is happening while he is fighting through one of the hardest stretches of his life, and Meltzer’s update at least gives fans some hope that he is finally heading in the right direction.
