Hafþór Björnsson actually had WWE talks at one point, but The Mountain says there’s a simple reason it never turned into anything real.
While speaking to Ross Tucker in a new interview, the former World’s Strongest Man and Game of Thrones star was asked if he had ever considered professional wrestling. Björnsson revealed that he didn’t just think about it. He flew to Tampa, met with Triple H and WWE officials, and visited the company’s office.
“At one point in my life, it crossed my mind and I flew to Tampa, met up with Triple H and the team and went to the office and spoke to them and it crossed my mind that they were trying to like do WWE, but nothing came out of it.”
Then came the real reason it stalled out. Björnsson said WWE could tell his focus was still on strongman, not making the jump into sports entertainment.
“I think they saw that my mind was more into like strongman and, you know, yeah, we spoke, but nothing came out of it.”
That’s a pretty wild “what if.” WWE had a legit giant with worldwide name value sitting in the room, but The Mountain’s head was still in the strength game. Instead of stepping into a WWE ring, he kept chasing strongman goals and building his career outside wrestling.
Now, Björnsson is looking more toward acting and life after competition, but fans will always wonder what could have happened if WWE landed The Mountain while Triple H had him in Tampa.
