Report: Celtic, Elversberg pushing to acquire USMNT prospect Cole Campbell

Cole Campbell’s time with Borussia Dortmund looks to be ending and a pair of reported suitors are circling for his signature.

Recently-promoted Bundesliga club Elversberg and Scottish Premiership giants are both working to acquire Campbell from the Black and Yellow, Sky Sports Germany reported Saturday. Borussia Dortmund are seeking to transfer Campbell permanently but a potential loan move is also being considered, according to the report.

Campbell, 20, spent last season on loan at fellow German club Hoffenheim, but made just five appearances and played 74 minutes. He also played in two matches for Hoffenheim II in the German third-tier.

The Texas-born attacker has found it tough to work his way into the first-team plans at Borussia Dortmund since joining in 2024. Campbell has made seven appearances for the Black and Yellow over the past three years, in addition to 13 appearances for Dortmund II in the 3. Liga and Regionalliga divisions.

A former Iceland youth national team player, Campbell switched his allegiance to the United States and has since featured for the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team. Campbell scored twice at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2025 and remains a top prospect for the senior team heading into the 2030 World Cup Qualifying cycle.

Elversberg finished second in the 2. Bundesliga last season, sealing promotion to the top-flight for the 2026-27 campaign.

Celtic most recently captured its fifth-consecutive league title in Scotland and will once again be taking part in the upcoming UEFA Champions League later this fall.
