Starting Pitchers
Nick Lodolo
Left-hander Nick Lodolo will try to replicate what he was doing in his most recent start last Tuesday against these same Brewers at Great American Ball Park. He had allowed only two hits and no runs with six strikeouts until he left the game after four innings due to being hit on his pitching hand on a ball up the middle.
Lodolo has given up eight home runs in only 46.2 innings this season. He has pitched better away from GABP this season, only allowing three home runs on the road, compared to five at home. However, he will have to contend with Andrew Vaughn in the middle of the Brewers lineup tonight, who has a 1.284 OPS against left-handed pitchers.

Robert Gasser
Opposing Lodolo will be left-hander Robert Gasser. The 27-year-old is coming off Tommy John surgery in 2024 and is still making his way back to full strength. He’s made six starts for the Brewers since coming back to their roster in the middle of May. It’s been somewhat of a roller coaster for him, but over his last two starts and 11.2 innings, Gasser’s allowed two runs on six hits with 12 strikeouts and no home runs allowed.
Gasser has typical career splits for a lefty with right-handed batters hitting him better than lefties. He has allowed four home runs in 73 career plate appearances to left-handed hitters though. This season he does seem to have some reverse splits happening, with lefties hitting better against him than righties, but I think this is only due to the very limited plate appearances. Gasser has not faced many lefties yet this season, and that won’t be the case tonight either as Terry Francona has wisely stacked the Reds lineup with right-handed hitters tonight.
