Debutant Kamran Ghulam and opener Saim Ayub saved Pakistan’s shaky innings on the first day of the 2nd Test in Multan against England. Pakistan scored 259 runs on Day 1 of the 2nd Test match.
England spinner Jack Leach made an early impact and claimed wickets of opener Abdullah Shafique and skipper Shan Masood in the first hour of the game. By the time it was the 10th over, Pakistan were at 19/2. This prompted debutant Kamran Ghulam to step on the pitch with Saim Ayub.
Ayub and Ghulam saved the innings, as they remained not out at 40 and 29, respectively. They made a 60-run partnership, which played a massive role in helping Pakistan reach a total of 79/2 by the end of first session.
Ayub and Ghulam both hit half-centuries and almost played through the entire session. After making a partnership of 149 runs for the third wicket, Ayub got caught by Ben Stokes and missed on his maiden Test century.
Kamran Ghulam scored his maiden Test half-century in debut as Pakistan reached 173/3 by the Tea break after 57 overs.
In the final session, Shakeel fell early as he nicked a delivery from Brydon Carse. Even after this, Kamran Ghulan was determined to play and eventually scored his first Test century.
Kamran hit 11 boundaries and a six in his innings of 118 runs then got dismissed by Shoaib Bashir. Mohammad Rizwan played through the remaining overs along with Agha Salman, helping Pakistan reach 259/5 by stumps.
