Setback for New Zealand as star batter is ruled out

Former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has been taken out of the second Test, set to take place in Pune from October 24. Williamson is in New Zealand as of now, and is going to stay there for rehabilitation from a strain in his groin.

Williamson faced this injury when he was playing in the two-Test series against Sri Lanka. New Zealand head coach Gary Stead is hoping for Williamson to make a full recovery before the third and final Test of the ongoing India Test series, set to begin from November 1.

We’re monitoring Kane and he’s tracking in the right direction, but isn’t yet 100% fit. “We’re hopeful to see further improvement over the coming days and have him available for the third Test,” said Stead in a media release by BlackCaps.

We’ll give him as much time as possible to get himself ready, but certainly continue to take a cautious approach,” he added.
