Losing a Test series at home is a big defeat for Team India. This has not happened for a while now. It is clear that the team is not going forward and hence, the board must pitch in and take some tough decisions. It is important that India’s Test Team is always at its peak. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three bold decisions BCCI must take concerning the Indian Test Team.
1) Explore the idea of split-coaching system
Gautam Gambhir never coaches any professional team before becoming the Head Coach of Team India. While it is still understandable for the limited-formats because he was involved with KKR, it is hard to understand the background for Gambhir’s appointment as the Test coach.
Many nations already have this system of split coaches for different formats. India must also explore this. Especially with so much resources available, it is needed to streamline them. Having different people at the helm could make that happen.
2) Decide the futures of the veterans
Deciding the futures of the veterans is one of the bold decisions BCCI must take concerning the Indian Test Team. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma must decide their futures in the Indian Test Team.
Even R Ashwin has to know his deadline. This way, the management can start investing in players for the future. This step has to be taken at the earliest.
3) Make domestic cricket mandatory for every player
BCCI has time and again given breaks to top cricketers in the Ranji season. They must now avoid it for any player for any reason.
Even in the case of a workload, a player builds his fitness only by playing more games. Hence, Ranji Trophy must be made a priority for each player.
