The Indian cricket team has already been defeated in the ongoing home Test series against New Zealand. In the three-match series, led by Rohit Sharma, the team is now 0-2 down with one match left. Notably, this also marked the first time India lost a Test series at home in 12 years. While the talk about India’s stronghold at home were silenced by the Blackcaps, who played to the best of the conditions available. The loss has brought in plenty of ire towards the hosts, and former South African captain AB de Villiers has instead suggested that there is no shame in the Indian team.
De Villiers, in fact, expressed that instead of being disappointed with New Zealand’s victory, it should be applauded as the visiting side has been really good in conquering the foreign conditions. The batting maestro also gave the example of Virat Kohli so that one could understand the reason behind the batter’s outstanding performance in South Africa.
“Even in the assertion when players travel to India, these are taken to mean that Indian players are the best in spin and all batters are the best players of spin bowling which is not the case. You can have the best batsman in the world and let him come to a turning wicket with a good spinner and that great player will be under pressure. If you are talking about the example of bowling, if the mind, skill, and ability lie within the batter, he can score in any part of the world,” said de Villiers while appearing on his own YouTube channel.
“The Indian batters are fine, they are amazing players , every single one of them and they can play spin. But I think a lot of teams have caught up and that, when you go to India, you are going to find it hard, those days are over.”
“The 90s and early 2000s are gone, when you are just a walking wicket in certain conditions. Look at Virat Kohli, he has scored 100s in South Africa as well,” he added.
