Kent have strengthened their squad for the crucial second phase of the Vitality T20 Blast by signing Melbourne Renegades seamer Tom Rogers. The 30-year-old, who has spent recent seasons with the Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes, is set to make his debut in county cricket with this stint.
“We’re pleased to have got Tom on board to sure-up our bowling options going into the ‘business end’ of this South Group stage,” said Kent’s director of cricket, Simon Cook. He added, “He has a lot of experience and has skills that will be useful to us with both the ball and the bat, too.”
Rogers, who has accumulated 60 T20 wickets at an average of 24.78 and an economy rate of 8.38, expressed his enthusiasm about the opportunity, saying, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to play in the Vitality Blast and I’m excited to be joining Kent. We know that every game is vital for us now, and I want to do my part in getting results as a Spitfire in the near future.”
Kent’s decision to bring in Rogers follows the departures of Xavier Bartlett and Wes Agar. Bartlett was only available for the first eight group games, and Agar had to return to Australia early due to a shoulder injury. Cook emphasized the significance of Rogers’s role, stating, “Tom’s arrival is a big boost for us as we look to climb up the South Group table.”
As Kent are currently second from the bottom in the South Group, having won only two matches so far, Rogers’s addition could be pivotal in their push for a top-four finish.
Rogers also acknowledged the challenges ahead, saying, “We know that every game from now on is crucial. I’m ready to contribute and help the team achieve the results we need.”
Kent will look to Rogers’s experience and skill set to enhance their performance as they enter the critical phase of the T20 Blast season.
