Sri Lanka has geared up to host its maiden men’s T10 cricket tournament from December 12 to 22. The event will be a great historical moment for Sri Lankan cricket. The competition is officially branded as the first men’s T10 of Sri Lanka, with SLC finally able to fulfil its long-standing dreams of starting a T10 league. Most of the T10 plans so far have been centred on women’s cricket, and it is the first major leap towards launching a men’s T10 competition.
SLC has collaborated with T Ten Global Sports, which has successfully conducted T10 tournaments in other countries like Zimbabwe and the West Indies. This collaboration has boosted the confidence of SLC to conduct a successful event. The player draft is to be held on November 10, and six franchises will participate. This number is only marginally more than the conventional five franchises that are common for the popular Lanka Premier League, which is Sri Lanka’s premier T20 competition, making the high expectations of this inaugural T10 league stand out.
SLC excited for its first men’s T10 cricket tournament
Shammi Silva, SLC president, said he was excited and added that this draft and tournament will give new life to Sri Lankan cricket and be an excellent addition to the cricket calendar. Silva said local players and international talent alike will get exclusive chances at Sri Lanka’s first men’s T10, making the experience thrilling for fans and cricketers alike.
“I am confident that the first ever draft of the Lanka T10 Super League is going to set the platform for an exciting and entertaining tournament, which will add color to the Sri Lankan cricketing calendar and bring in a new experience to our players and fans, alike,”
The league is scheduled during an 11-day gap after Sri Lanka’s Test series in South Africa and before the white-ball series in New Zealand, with top Sri Lankan players available for participation. It will also include an emerging player round in which upcoming Zimbabwean and West Indian players will represent their countries to further push regional cricket cooperation and the exposure of young players to high-level competitive action.
Sri Lanka is hosting its inaugural T10 tournament in a bid to diversify its cricket offerings and join the global trend toward shorter, high-intensity formats.
