Mumbai Indians Announced Their Retention List Of Five Players, Jasprit Bumrah Locked In As First Player

The five-time champions Mumbai Indians announced their retention list of five players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction on 31st October, Thursday. Ace fast bowler Jasprit Bunrah has been locked in as the first player for the franchise and will get INR 18 cr until the next mega auction. Bumrah has remained a long-serving member of Mumbai since his IPL debut in 2013 and scalped 20 wickets in the last season despite the team’s failure.

The other players who have been retained are Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, former captain Rohit Sharma, and Tilak Varma. Tilak Varma will fetch a handsome sum of INR 8 cr while the rest will earn a whopping INR 16.35 cr.

These five capped retentions mean Mumbai has secured its core group to carry forward the franchise’s legacy and will sit in the mega auction with INR 44.95 cr out of 120 cr in their purse and one RTM card to use on an uncapped player.

After their debacle in the 2024 IPL, there were rumors that seniors like Rohit, Bumrah, and Suryakumar were disappointed with Hardik Pandya’s decisions and leadership style on the field. Hence either they would leave the franchise or MI has to sack Hardik from captaincy. However, all four members have agreed to extend their stay in the franchise and the captain is yet to be announced for the upcoming season.

Many fans were expecting Jharkhand wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan’s name on the retention list but surprisingly, MI management has opted to go with Varma who ended the tournament as the second-highest run-getter after Rohit Sharma in 2024 with 416 runs in 13 innings.
