Alzarri Joseph handed 2-match ban following disrespectful on-field behaviour

West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph exited the field after having a heated argument with skipper Shai Hope in the third ODI against England. This happened after Hope didn’t listen to Joseph’s suggestions regarding the placement of slip fielders. Though the pacer did dismiss batter Jordan Cox in the same over, he ended up losing his calm and stormed off the field.

Joseph returned to the field after an over and West Indies won the game by eight wickets but the team management was extremely unhappy with the behaviour of the 27-year-old. After the match, head coach Daren Sammy addressed the incident and called Joseph’s behavior as ‘unacceptable’.

The disrespectful behaviour has earned Joseph a 2-match ban and this was confirmed by Cricket West Indies (CWI) Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe in a recent statement.

“Alzarri’s behaviour did not align with the core values that Cricket West Indies upholds. Such conduct cannot be overlooked, and we have taken decisive action to ensure the gravity of the situation is fully acknowledged,” Bascombe said as quoted by ICC.

Joseph revealed that he had personally apologized to skipper Hope for his behaviour after the game. The pacer explained that his passion got the better of him and also extended his apologies to the teammates, management and the fans.

“I recognise that my passion got the best of me. I have personally apologised to Captain Shai Hope and my teammates and management. I also extend my sincerest apologies to the West Indies fans – I understand that even a brief lapse in judgment can have a far-reaching impact, and I deeply regret any disappointment caused,” Joseph said.
