Ex-PAK captain’s reaction to BCCI as they refuse to send team IND to PAK for Champions Trophy

The current ongoing concern on the participation of India in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan have increased. Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi recently raised his strong opinion on this matter through the means of his social media.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that Indian team will not be visiting Pakistan due to security concerns. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has accepted this decision by the BCCI, but have refuse to opt for a hybrid model to host the tournament. This has given rise to questions on the tournament’s format and venues.

Between these ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, Shahid Afridi requested the cricket administrators to make the spirit of the game their centre of focus.

Cricket is at a crucial crossroads, facing perhaps one of its greatest challenges since the late 1970s. Now is the time to put differences aside and let the game unite us. If countries once divided by history can come together in the Olympic spirit, why can’t we do the same for cricket – and for the Champions Trophy?” Afridi wrote on X.

As stewards of this game, we owe it to cricket to keep egos in check and focus on its growth and spirit. I hope to see every team in Pakistan for CT25, to experience our warmth and hospitality, and to leave with unforgettable memories that transcend the field,” he further wrote.
