Mumbai Indians are one of the most successful teams in the history of the Indian Premier League. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians became a phenomenal force to be reckoned with in the competition by winning as many as five trophies.
Mumbai Indians won their first title by beating Chennai Super Kings in the 2013 final. They defeated CSK in the 2015 final to win their second title, and won their third title by beating CSK in the 2017 final. Mumbai Indians won their fourth title by beating Rising Pune Supergiants in the 2019 final.
They defended the title for the first time in history by beating Delhi Capitals in the 2020 final. It has been four years since they last won the title. Mumbai Indians ran through major changes, especially in the last season where Rohit Sharma was stripped off captaincy duties as Hardik Pandya was given the responsibility to lead the team from the front.
Unfortunately, Mumbai Indians failed to qualify for the playoffs and they hit the rock bottom of the points table. Having played 14 games in the league stage, they won just four games and lost the remaining 10 games. MI retained Jasprit Bumrah (Rs 18 crore), Suryakumar Yadav (Rs 16.35 crore), Hardik Pandya (Rs 16.35 crore), Rohit Sharma (Rs 16.30 crore), Tilak Varma (Rs 8 crore).
Openers: Rohit Sharma, Will Jacks
Rohit Sharma has been one of the top round scorers in the history of the IPL. The former Mumbai Indians captain scored 6,628 runs in 257 matches at a strike rate of 131.1, including two centuries and 43 fifties. He is expected to lead the batting attack by example in the upcoming season alongside new signing Will Jacks.
Mumbai Indians purchased the services of England international Will Jacks for INR 5.25 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. The 26-year-old has played 8 games in the IPL wherein he scored 230 runs, including 1 century and a fifty and maintained a batting average of 32.9 and an exceptional strike rate of 175.6.
This opening combination is expected to provide a lot of fireworks for Mumbai Indians going forward in the upcoming season. The MI franchise lacked the killer instinct from the opening pair and they will expect their former captain Rohit and Jacks to go about their work.
