Former Sri Lanka captain, Sanath Jayasuriya has now been named as the interim head coach for the side ahead of its white-ball series against India. The Indian team will be touring Sri Lanka for three T20 Internationals and as many ODIs, starting July 27.
The 55-year-old Jayasuriya, a swashbuckling opener in his prime, was named for the interim post after Englishman Chris Silverwood resigned last week as Sri Lanka head coach.
Silverwood stepped down after Sri Lanka’s disastrous T20 World Cup campaign where they only managed to win 1 match and were knocked out in the group stages.
One of the most attacking batsman of his times, Jayasuriya has served as Sri Lanka’s chief selector in the past and was recently a consultant for the team during this year’s T20 World Cup.
