KKR Targets Rahul Dravid as New Mentor

After the T20 World Cup win, the Indian coach Rahul Dravid ended his tenure as the Indian coach. As he doesn’t want to renew his tenure. BCCI has opted for a new coach. Gautam Gambhir is the most talked about name on the list. If he becomes the coach, then it will be a concern for Kolkata Knight Riders to hunt for a new person for that role. Some of the sources are saying, that KKR is eyeing the former Indian coach for their new coach. 

Gambhir is Set to Take the Charge of Team India:

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir appears poised to step into the role of India’s head coach. Gambhir emerged as the frontrunner after Rahul Dravid opted not to continue with the team. Despite competition from WV Raman, the former coach of India’s women’s team, who also impressed the BCCI Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), Gambhir is widely considered the favorite for the position.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah previously confirmed that the new head coach will lead Team India during their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, which includes three ODIs and three T20Is. This potential appointment would mark Gambhir’s entry into a prominent coaching role at the international level, setting the stage for a new chapter in Indian cricket under his leadership.

Dravid in KKR?

As Gambhir is stepping into Team India, it will be a concern for Kolkata Knight Riders. After being the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants in the 2022 and 2023 IPL, Gambhir moved back to KKR in the same role. Gambhir’s journey with Kolkata Knight Riders always remains special. He gave two IPL trophies to them and presented the third one as the mentor. After joining the franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders lifted the trophy for the third time. 

Now KKR’s concern is rising over their mentor position. After stepping out from Team India, Rahul Dravid is not in any contracts. The IPL franchises are eyeing on him. KKR is also one of them. However, there are multiple offers within Indian cricket circles for Rahul Dravid’s next job. Several IPL franchises, especially, have been in touch with Dravid for a coaching role in the upcoming season.

 Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) could be a major surprise in that list. Sources suggest that the KKR franchise is keen on getting Rahul Dravid as either a coach or mentor. If true, it could be a big splash in the 2025 IPL season.
