Former Australian star David Warner has cleared things on the Test debut of Nathan McSweeney in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. David said that Nathan’s intentions against India in the second Test match was amazing.

Warner also went all-out on the questions regarding his selection in the national squad for the five-match Test series against India. He said that Nathan has a very bright future ahead of him.

He’s faced four of the five toughest challenges for an opening batsman and handled them well. The intent he showed the other day was promising. While there were questions about his selection, his performance shows why he was chosen. He has a good temperament and setup, and I think he has a bright future ahead,” Warner said while speaking to the media.

After defeating India by 10 wickets in the second Test match, Australia will now face India for the Third Test match, set to begin December 14.

Warner also urged Australian batters to perform well in the upcoming clash , since it will help in releasing some of the pressure from the pacers.

I think the pressure is on all of the top order, not just Uzzie (Usman Khawaja). Travis came out and counterpunched with a brilliant hundred–we know he’s capable of that–but it’s about everyone else around him providing support,” Warner remarked.

It’s not just one player in particular; it’s the top six scoring bulk runs and giving the fast bowlers a break. The first game was high-paced, but in the last one, we saw Mitchell Starc at his best with the pink ball. Come Brisbane, we need to see some big runs from the top order,” he added.

The ongoing Test series between India and Australia is important for the visitors as this will have a major effect on their qualification for the World Test Championship (WTC) finals, which are going to be held in England. India needs to win their remaining three Tests against the hosts to secure their spot in the WTC finals.
