Rashid Khan To Return in Afghanistan Test Squad

Rashid Khan is set to make a comeback in the Afghanistan Test Squad for the Zimbabwe series. Rashid will play his first test since 2021. The series will take place in Bulawayo from December 26 to January 6.

Rashid Khan’s Return

Rashid Khan has been named in Afghanistan’s Test squad against Zimbabwe. Rashid Khan has been absent from the Tests since 2021 due to a groin injury. His comeback is expected to strengthen the Afghanistan spin attack in the red-ball game.

“Rashid Khan returns to the Test squad, which is a promising sign for our red-ball game going forward,” Ahmad Shah Sulimankhil, ACB’s interim chief selector, said in a statement. “The rest of the team underwent good preparations recently in Nangarhar province, which featured 19 players and all the support staff to work with the players and ensure full preparation for the series.

“We have thoroughly monitored the proceedings and have picked the squad which includes several new faces, including Ismat Alam, Bashir Ahmad, and Zahir Shehzad, who have performed well during the recent Ahmad Shah Abdali first-class tournament.”

Zimbabwe included 7 uncapped players. All rounder Ismat Alam, left-arm spinner Zahir Shehzad, and left-arm pacer Bashir Ahmad Afghan, Azmatullah Omarzai, Fareed Ahmad, Riaz Hassan and Sediqullaj Atal.

They have earned their spots through consistent domestic performances. Afghanistan is reflecting concern to expand the talent pool. This marks the preparation of young players for the Test cricket.
