R Ashwin has announced his retirement from international cricket after the third Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Brisbane ended in a draw.
India’s seasoned spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his retirement from international cricket after the third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at Brisbane’s Gabba Stadium resulted in a draw.
The star off-spinner had featured for India in 106 Test matches, including his last appearance in the pink-ball Test of the ongoing five-match Test series against Australia. He has bagged 537 wickets and also scored 3503 runs.
Ashwin also ended his international career as the only Test cricket player who has claimed more than 500 wickets and six centuries in the longest format of the game.
A short while after the third Test match against Australia, Ashwin came along with Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, and bud his farewell to international cricket for good.
“This will be my last day as an Indian cricketer in all formats at the international level,” Ashwin told reporters on Wednesday.
“I do feel there’s a bit of punch left in me as a cricketer, but I would like to expose and probably showcase that in club level cricket, but this will be the last day and I’ve had a lot of fun,” he added.
The entirety of cricket fraternity soon started giving their reactions to this shocking announcement made by India’s star cricketer.
