Seven divisional matchups and several desperation games for preseason favorites make NFL Week 14 a nail-biter. The first official playoff eliminations hit the board after Week 13’s carnage, with the Tennessee Titans, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants, New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals out of the postseason picture.
But the real shocker was the usually dominant teams that fell in Week 13 action. The Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams all lost. For the Rams, the loss didn’t dent their hopes or their odds to win the Super Bowl (favorites at +475). But for the Chiefs and Ravens, attaining the postseason has now become a desperation play, and for the Lions, the outlook is also scary. The Eagles lost for the second game in a row, this time to the Chicago Bears, just as the Dallas Cowboys have won three in a row to close the gap in the NFC East to a game and a half.
Week 14 kicks off with a matchup between those improving Cowboys and the Detroit Lions, with the Lions just 3-point favorites at home. Detroit has dropped four of its last seven games, including a Thanksgiving loss to division rivals Green Bay.
In terms of the other desperation-mode teams, the 6-6 Chiefs who have lost three of their last four games, are 3.5-point favorites over the 7-5 Houston Texans, winners of their last four.
The 6-6 Ravens are 6.5-point favorites over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The biggest favorites of Week 14 are the Seattle Seahawks (-7.5 at the Atlanta Falcons), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-8.5 vs. the Saints), Denver Broncos (-7.5 at the Raiders) and Rams (-7.5 at the Arizona Cardinals).
The closest games are expected to be the Miami Dolphins (-2.5) at New York Jets, Washington Commanders (-1.5) at Minnesota Vikings and Indianapolis Colts (-1.5) at Jacksonville Jaguars.
