WWE hyped Survivor Series 2025 like it was going to be one of the biggest shows of the year. WarGames featured huge names inside two rings surrounded by a steel cage. While on paper, everything looked set for a wild night, as it should be. However, once the event actually unfolded, fans were left scratching their heads and scrolling through social media, wondering, ‘ Is this it?’
Now, WWE Survivor Series 2025 wasn’t a disaster, but it was painfully average. And when the final big show, one of the big four pay-per-views, ends up feeling forgettable, something clearly went wrong. Here’s why this year’s Survivor Series just didn’t hit the mark.
#4. Lack Of Creativity By WWE
The idea of WarGames is supposed to be chaotic, violent, and unpredictable. Unfortunately, fans got the wrestling equivalent of comfort food. The booking was predictable, while the spots had bare-minimum intensity. And the worst part was the fact that there were no risks.
WWE didn’t even include the iconic shark cages. There were no wild weapon spots, no next-level brutality, or anything. Just the same safe bumps and recycled sequences fans have seen a thousand times. While no one is asking for an AEW Blood & Guts level of bloodshed, WarGames is designed for talent to be creative. This year’s WarGames matches felt like they were put together because the show had to feature them.
Fans weren’t asking for anything crazy or overtly dangerous. They just wanted something different. Instead, everything felt stripped-down and overproduced. This wasn’t a pay-per-view bout but a special WWE RAW or SmackDown episode.
#3. Liv Morgan’s WWE Return Was Okay
WWE Survivor Series did have one big surprise: Liv Morgan’s return. This was to help Dominik Mysterio beat John Cena for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. While this was a good surprise, it seemed like the Judgment Day overshadowed the moment.
Finn Balor, JD McDonagh, Raquel Rodriguez, and Roxanne Perez were already involved in the match. What could have been a clever, character-driven swerve became another generic interference finish.
Liv’s return could’ve stood out. Instead, it felt like every single member of the Judgement Day was required to put Super Cena down. The moment would have been better if it were just Morgan returning. Maybe even wearing a hoodie since everyone would’ve thought it was Perez before the big reveal.
#2. The Crowd Fell Flat
Visually, the open-stadium setup looked great. WWE never misses on making the pay-per-views visually striking. However, atmosphere-wise, it was meh. Open venues can be hit or miss when it comes to acoustics, and this one was a miss. Crowd noise escaped into the sky instead of echoing through the arena.
Moreover, Dave Meltzer reported that the show was not mic’d well. This made the crowd’s reactions sound flatter than they actually were. But honestly, even if it was a closed arena, the crowd wasn’t exactly red hot.
The only matches that seemed to get the crowd going were Cena vs. Mysterio and the men’s WarGames. Compared to typical WWE PLEs, this one felt lukewarm. Fans were watching, not living through the moments. Whether it was the predictable booking or the weak build for certain matches like Nikki Bella vs. Stephanie Vaquer, there was a disconnect from start to finish.

#1. The Men’s WarGames Match Had A Cool Ending, But
To be fair, the men’s WarGames match did try something new: a clever, unexpected final moment. A hooded figure storms the ring to aid the heel team. It’s not like WWE fans have ever seen that one before. This falls under one of those tropes WWE treats like it’s groundbreaking every time they use it.
Now, this did raise some eyebrows about who it could be. Seth Rollins? Since the Stomp was used? Austin Theory? Is he the latest addition to The Vision? Another returning star? However, WWE RAW did not answer that question.
WWE loves playing the waiting game, and this ending seems to be another one. It could be weeks before The Vision reveals or finds out who exactly helped them. Meanwhile, every other member of the babyface team will have moved on to something new.
