Ben Whittaker ‘offered’ world title shot

Ben Whittaker is already being offered the opportunity to get his hands on a world title.

Whittaker secured the WBC Silver light heavyweight title with a sensational first round knockout of Benjamin Gavazi on Saturday in Birmingham.

The 28-year-old is likely to move into the top five of the WBC rankings after his victory, with the WBC meeting at a convention in Thailand this week.

David Benavidez retained his WBC world title with a seventh round stoppage of Anthony Yarde in Riyadh last month and his father and trainer, Jose Benavidez Sr has welcomed a clash between his son and ‘The Surgeon’.

“Let’s make it happen!” Benavidez Sr posted on Instagram.

“We want to give the fans the fights that they want to see.

“Leave your comment we are ready.”

In his very next post, Benavidez Sr posted a photo of a much more likely fight between his son and unified cruiserweight world champion, Gilberto Ramirez which is set to take place in May on Cinco De Mayo weekend in Las Vegas.

’The Mexican Monster’ admits he’s keen to fight in the UK one day and recently named Whittaker as a potential opponent.

“Hopefully one day I can get a fight out there [to the UK] with somebody,” the 28-year-old said on Froch On Fighting.

“Maybe me and Ben Whittaker.

“I think he’s a good fighter, but he’s still too green right now.

“He’s a good fighter, but he needs more experience.

“But hopefully in the future, we can make that happen.

“It’s one of my dreams to fight out there at Wembley Stadium.

“The crowd and the energy out there is just amazing.”

Whittaker, who fought for the first time under Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom stable, is set to make his US debut in the early part of 2026.

The Brit has played down the noise surrounding a possible clash with Benavidez.

“You’re obviously doing something right if you’re on their radar,” he said during the post-fight press conference.

“But I’ve got my own path.

“I’m on my own journey and when I get there, I don’t want to compete, I want to beat them.”
