Mumbai Indians Add New Team to Their Franchise Network, Confirm Massive Pre-Auction Acquisition

Mumbai Indians have completed a major move in global cricket by buying a 49 percent stake in The Hundred’s Oval Invincibles. Surrey County Cricket Club will keep 51 percent, but the deal means the ECB will no longer run the team.

This change will take effect from the 2026 season. Both the men’s and women’s teams will play under a new name, MI London. This adds another branch to the fast-growing MI franchise family.

The MI group now has seven teams in five countries. They already have a strong presence in South Africa, UAE, USA and India. The new London team spreads their reach across four continents.

Oval Invincibles have been one of the strongest sides in The Hundred. The women’s team won in 2021 and 2022. The men’s team lifted the trophy in 2023, 2024 and 2025. This winning culture now becomes part of the MI setup.

Mumbai Indians also enjoy a rich history across leagues. They have 13 major titles in the IPL, WPL, SA20, ILT20, MLC and the old CLT20. Every MI-branded team has won at least one trophy. That success is a big reason why this partnership has drawn global attention.

Mrs Nita M Ambani welcomed the new chapter. She said:

“We are delighted to welcome MI London into the OneFamily and take the MI legacy to new frontiers. London holds a special place in the heart of cricket, and we are honoured to be part of its rich heritage.” She added that MI and Surrey aim to develop young players and build deeper community links.

Surrey Chair Oli Slipper said the partnership brings real strength.

“Reliance bring a significant depth of cricket and business expertise and have had great success with their franchise teams in India and around the world. They are passionate cricket people and together we will continue the success of our two teams.”
