Kevin Durant gets historic accolade, becomes only the eighth player in NBA history in game against Phoenix

Kevin Durant is often mentioned among the greatest scorers in NBA history. He is in the top 10 all-time in regular-season scoring, but he has now breached the 31,000-point mark. He is now only the eighth player in NBA history to get this accolade.

Over the past 18 seasons, Kevin Durant has been a phenomenal scorer. He has been such an excellent offensive player that he has averaged 20+ points in every season of his NBA career. He makes a case for being the most complete scorer in NBA history, as he is a threat across all three levels, and he produces high volume and elite efficiency.

Durant is the second-highest scorer among the active players, behind LeBron James, who leads all players with over 42,000 points in his regular-season career. Given that Durant has dealt with multiple long-term injuries, his place in the all-time scoring list shows his excellence over the past two decades.

Durant is in striking distance of both Wilt Chamberlain and Dirk Nowitzki, which could put him sixth in the all-time rankings this season. He could even surpass Michael Jordan if he maintains his pace, putting him right behind his old Team USA teammate, Kobe Bryant.

Durant is unsurprised about getting the record

As one of the most successful scorers in NBA history, Durant knows that he deserves to be up there with the all-time greats. He is one of the most reliable offensive players ever, as scoring comes naturally for him. Whether it’s pulling up for a mid-range or scoring a layup, Durant does it in the smoothest way possible.

He has done it across many teams, most notably with the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Golden State Warriors. Now, he is with the Houston Rockets, where he feels comfortable being a go-to guy. Durant is enjoying his time alongside fellow All-Star Alperen Sengun, but the two-time Finals MVP knows that he is still a top dog if he wants to be.

After the game against his former team, the Phoenix Suns, Durant was asked about his newest accolade and what he felt about it.

“So many people have invested in my life, I’m just grateful for them. I want to keep it going,” Durant said about the road to being a top star.

The interviewer asked him whether he expected to maintain his scoring spree throughout the years. In the usual Kevin Durant fashion, he pointed out that he expected this because he knows himself.

Durant will keep going with his scoring

Durant is already 37, but he still looks like one of the league’s best players. He is averaging 25 points on solid efficiency this season, which could help the Rockets become one of the best teams in the Western Conference.

Yes, the Thunder are the best team in the league, but the Rockets can still pull off surprises. Durant and Sengun are the stars, but they have a decent team around them that could help them surprise people.

Durant is getting older, but his game is ageless, making him a coach’s dream player. He has all the talent in the world to keep this scoring barrage going, even though he does not rely on elite athleticism to score. The pull-up jump shots, crafty post moves, and unbelievable shot creation will last with Durant for a long time.

Durant is not going anywhere, and since he is thriving with the Rockets, the future is still bright for the 2014 MVP. He is ready to keep going and climbing that all-time scoring leaderboard. James’ record might be unattainable, but he could compete with the other players in the rankings.
