Jai Opetaia vs Huseyin Cinkara – Big Fight Preview & Predictions

It’s world title action at Gold Coast Convention Centre in Queensland, Australia this Saturday, as Jai Opetaia makes his third appearance of the year, and the fourth defence of his IBF cruiserweight title against Huseyin Cinkara.

Matchroom and Ring of Fire promote Opetaia vs Cinkara, and DAZN screen the action live.

Opetaia (28-0, KO22) won the IBF crown for a second time in 2024 in a rematch points win against Mairis Briedis, and then emphatically defended with a stoppage of Jack Massey in six in October last year.

He then blasted David Nyika out in four in a slugfest, and was last in action in June, hammering Claudio Squeo to defeat in five in Broadbeach.

The 30-year-old is looking for a significant fight, but must settle for unbeaten mandatory challenger Cinkara (23-0, KO19) this time around.

The German based in Turkey has never been past ten rounds, and has only boxed twice since October 2023. In April last year, he stopped Arnold Xhoxhaj in two rounds, and took a year out before returning to halt Juan Diaz inside a round.

Prediction: Opetaia will be in no mood to hang around here, and can score a stoppage win around halfway.

Jake Wyllie vs Paul Flemming

On the undercard, three ten-rounders head the preliminaries.

Jake Wyllie (18-2, KO16) looks to continue his good recent form against Paul Fleming (28-1-1, KO18).

Wyllie stepped in at late notice to give George Kambosos Jr a good argument in March, losing over twelve rounds, and has won twice since, the last a points win against Youssef Dib.

Fleming lost for the first time last time out, which was nearly three years ago, stopped in the final round of twelve against Charly Suarez in Sydney.

Prediction: Wyllie is in good form, and can continue that with a points win in this one.

Remaining Undercard

Ben Mahoney (15-0-1, KO8) should defend his IBF Pan Pacific super welterweight title for the first time with a points win against Winston Hill (7-0, KO6), and Jack Gregory (7-1, KO2) can win the vacant IBF Youth super middleweight bauble on the cards against Hayden Emmerson (9-3-1, KO6).

In eight-rounders, former world champion Jason Moloney (27-4, KO19) looks for his first win in three, and he can end his bout with Herlan Gomez (14-2, KO10) early. Unbeaten super middleweight Max McIntyre (8-0, KO7) can stop Jed Morris (8-2, KO7) in their meeting, and Taylah Gentzen (7-1, KO3) can outpoint Jessica Adams (3-3-1, KO3) in their lightweight clash.

Termoana Teremoana (8-0, KO8) can win early again in his heavyweight six-rounder with German Garcia Montes (9-6, KO9), and Austin Aokuso (9-0, KO3) should stop Emmanuel Danso (36-10, KO30) in their light heavyweight four-rounder.
