Legacy MTB Mag Drops a Photo Issue and New Merch After Half a Decade of Strange Direction

Is BIKE Mag back?

“What’s going on with BIKE mag?” This is a question I’m no stranger to getting. But today, I can say that something is going on. I remember growing up reading issues of BIKE, and I’m not alone in feeling deep respect for the publication and recognizing its impact on my life, but things have been strange for the title over the last few years. After the title, along with POWDER, SURFER, and SNOWBOARDER, was put on the chopping block in 2020, the industry felt a blow and watched as some of the greatest outdoor action sports publications fell. Five years later, BIKE is shaking off the dust with a special edition print issue and some new merch, proving that BIKE Mag is still here, and still for the culture.

It’s been a long time coming, but reviving something with BIKE’s legacy has been no easy task; there is still room for growth. We didn’t want to put out something we wouldn’t buy ourselves, and we would never put the BIKE name on a magazine that didn’t deserve it.

But what is presented in this special 40-page issue is our tribute to the magazine’s history. From the presentation of images to the content bound in the pages, there is nothing but respect for the sport, athletes, and creatives that continue to move the industry forward.

Here’s to something new-ish, showing respect to the past, and re-establishing respect for a title that is near and dear to the sport. Here’s to doing what we can with what we’ve got. Here’s to those who still tune in and wade through all the pop-ups and banner ads, and have watched the somewhat bizarre path the title has been on since the collapse in 2020. Thanks for reading, and thanks for being part of the community.

There are no paid ads. There is no AI-generated content. It’s just beautiful images, written words, and pure passion for our sport.

I’ll admit, when I was tasked with this mission, I damn near had a panic attack, and the amount of time I spent making sure this issue was an accurate representation of the BIKE ethos probably took years off my life. But I think it’s all worth it in the end. There’s an entire generation of riders who have never held a physical BIKE Magazine and don’t know the impact of getting that cover shot or of striving to be printed inside an issue. I hope, with this, we can restart the machine that has been left to rust for the last few years.

New Merch

It’s more than just the magazine, though. BIKE is also refreshing its merch with some tight designs to celebrate the oftentimes polarizing opinions that mountain bikers aren’t ashamed to share. I tried to design some shit I would actually want to wear, not just another wack hoodie or T-shirt that wouldn’t strike a chord with anyone.
