I recently tested out the Wilson Tour Premier All Court balls as I was looking to find an alternative to the Wilson US Open due to stock issues in my local store. They had these in so thought I’d give them a go.
They are a little more expensive than the US Open from what I can see in most stores but not by much. They are a good and versatile all-surface choice for club players, coaches, and for competitive matches. Straight out the can I found they provided a consistent bounce, good feel and played well on hard court, grass and artificial clay surfaces. They also held up well over several sessions without fluffing up too much.
These balls are available for purchase at Tennis Warehouse Europe (use code TNERD10 for a 10% discount) and at Tennis Only (AU). At Tennis Warehouse USA we only found other Wilson balls at the moment.
Performance Overview
Here’s what stood out on court:
- Bounce similar playability to US Open maybe a little less lively
- Feel is crisp early on, really enjoyed baseline rallies
- Control is clean / stable
- Durability really impressed me and got 3 solid heavy hitting sessions out of these before any significant drop in playability
Pros and cons
Pros:
- Played really well over several sessions – excellent durability
- Would be suitable for matchplay and harder hitting
- Played well on most surfaces although I notice that some people report them dropping off faster on clay (but this was not my experience)
- Feel more premium to US Open in my view
Really good option for competitive matchplay and heavy hitting.
Cons:
- Not the cheapest option but have seen them in dual packs in some larger stores
- Not widely available outside larger stores (although can be found online easily enough)
- Not suitable for beginners, juniors in my view (might be a little too fast)
Juniors or beginners may want something a bit less responsive / slower.
Quick Ratings (Based on my own playtest – not official data)
Bounce Consistency 8.5/10 – Really impressed me even after several sessions
Durability 8.5/10 – Very good durability, minimal fluffing up
Speed 7.5/10 – Not super lively, but definitely faster than something like the Dunlop AO
Control 8/10 – Very good, very clean
Feel 8/10 – Really good feel, responsive
All-Court Versatility 9.0/10 – Plays well on most surfaces (and held out well on hard)
Value for Money 7/10 – A little more expensive than more widely available premium balls
Comparison vs Premium Balls
Babolat Team – Closest comparison in my view and a similar price point (although Babolat Team more commonly available)
Dunlop ATP – Again similar, but Wilson Tour Premier Premier a little livelier maybe
Head Tour XT – Similar price point but Wilson Tour Premier Premier All Court offers better durability and performance over several sessions
Buying Advice / Practical Tips
- Use for competitive matches on hard courts if price not the major driver, otherwise US Open might be slightly better value (and easier to source)
- Not suited to beginners / juniors – might find these a little too lively (Dunlop ATP Championship might be more suitable)
In summary
Wilson Tour Premier Premier All Court are a really durable, high-performance tennis ball. They are suitable for competitive matches and heavy training sessions. I think for me they sit slightly above the Wilson US Open in terms of performance but are a little more expensive. That said, I would happily buy these again if I could find them more easily in stores. They would not be suitable for juniors or beginners in my view as they might be a little too fast/lively.
