Italy have consolidated their position at the top of the Davis Cup Nations Rankings after being crowned world champions for the third consecutive year by defeating Spain in the Davis Cup final in Bologna on Sunday.

The Italians rose to No. 1 following their victory against Australia in the 2023 final, which saw them win the Davis Cup for a second time – and for the first time since 1976. They have remained in top spot since then, adding a third title by defeating Netherlands last year and a fourth title after victory against Spain in front of a sell-out crowd at the Bologna Fiere on Sunday.

Italy are one of 10 nations to have held the No. 1 ranking since the Davis Cup Nations Rankings were introduced in December 2001 – alongside Argentina, Australia, Canada, Croatia, Czechia, France, Great Britain, Russia and Spain.

Spain’s runner-up finish this year sees them climb seven places from No. 10 to No. 3 – the team’s highest ranking in two years. Germany, whom Spain defeated in a dramatic semi-final tie on Saturday, have risen one place to No. 2 in the rankings, having now reached the semi-finals for two consecutive years.

Australia drop two places to No. 4 in the latest rankings, while Belgium move up six places from No. 11 to No. 5 following their semi-final finish in Bologna. The Belgians were last ranked inside the Top 5 in March 2022.
