With the double-header run in typically mixed winter rallycross conditions and a range of new and returning drivers to the headline Supercar category, the weekend posed a challenge for all concerned, and was far from a forgone conclusion, despite Tohill entering the third and fourth rounds of the campaign with the points lead in search of a record 10th straight Irish crown.
Running the coveted GB1 number on the side of the Peugeot 208 WRX, having secured the 5 Nations BRX crown for a second time at Lydden Hill in early November, Tohill, PFCRX and DA Racing set about scoring as many points as possible from the challenging weekend.
Using the opportunity to also assess minor refinements to the tried-and-tested 208 concept, double European Rallycross Champion Tohill dominated the double-header to take a brace of Supercar final victories and a pair of all-important Superfinal wins, to extend his margin at the head of the IRX Championship table, and conclude the rallycross year in the best possible way.
In the week leading up to the event, it was also confirmed by the FIA that the European Rallycross Championship would return to Mondello Park in Ireland on July 18-19 next year for the first time in 30 years as part of a six-event schedule for the discipline’s highest-level next year, a huge boost for rallycross in the country.
Meanwhile, in the days following the Mondello weekend, Tohill collected his prize for securing the 2024-2025 IRX crown earlier this year, at the Motorsport Ireland Champions of Motorsport Awards.
