Minnu Mani has been chosen as the captain for the India A women’s cricket team for their series against Australia A. Mani played for the Delhi team in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) in 2024. Shweta Sehrawat, a young batswoman, has been selected as her assistant captain. Sehrawat was part of the India U19 team that won the T20 World Cup last year and also plays for the UP Warriorz in the WPL.
Uma Chetry, who recently became the second cricketer from Assam to represent India, is also part of the India A team. She is also included in the Indian team for the Women’s Asia Cup, which will take place in Bangladesh starting from July 19. Shabnam Shakeel, who did not get a chance to play for India in the series against South Africa, has been selected, but her inclusion depends on her fitness.
Other notable players joining the tour to Australia include Kiran Navgire, Priya Punia, Shubha Satheesh, Sajana Sajeevan, Saika Ishaque, and Meghna Singh. Saima Thakor, who played for the Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League, has been named as a reserve player.
The T20 series between India A and Australia A is scheduled from August 7 to 11. The 50-over games will be held in Mackay on August 14 and 16. The 4-day game on the Gold Coast is set for August 22 to 25.
