India’s second T20I against South Africa in Mullanpur produced an unexpected flashpoint when Gautam Gambhir was seen shouting from the dugout after Arshdeep Singh bowled a chaotic over filled with wides.
India won the toss and chose to bowl at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. Both teams made contrasting choices. South Africa made three changes, bringing in Reeza Hendricks, George Linde and Ottneil Baartman. India stayed with the same XI from the first match.
The match was stable early on, but everything changed when Arshdeep came on to bowl the 11th over. His first ball was a full one, and Quinton de Kock smashed it straight back over his head for six. The pressure was already high, and it got worse quickly.
Arshdeep lost control of his line and sent down seven wides in the same over. The frustration was clear on the field and also in the dugout. Cameras caught Gautam Gambhir looking angry as he shouted instructions towards the bowler. Fans online said Gambhir looked upset with the lack of discipline in that spell.

This over also put Arshdeep into the T20I record books. He now sits joint second for most balls bowled in one over in men’s T20Is among full-member teams. Naveen ul Haq tops the list with 13 balls against Zimbabwe in 2024. Arshdeep also bowled 13 balls today. Sisanda Magala is third with a 12 ball over against Pakistan in 2021.
South Africa’s batting order looked strong with Hendricks, de Kock, Markram, Brevis and Miller. India relied on Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel to steady the game after that expensive over.
Many fans said the clip of Gambhir shouting showed how tense the moment was. One viewer wrote, “Gambhir does not tolerate loose bowling and he made it clear.” Another said the over felt like a turning point even though the match still had many overs left.
A short video of the incident is already spreading across social media. Viewers can see Gambhir standing at the edge of the dugout with a frustrated expression as he reacts to every wide. It was a rare moment where emotions took over in a high pressure chase.
