Suryakumar Yadav’s T20I Captaincy Milestones

In 2023, Suryakumar Yadav became the third Indian captain to win a five-match T20I series. This was his debut series as captain against Australia.

This series victory was the second instance of an Asian captain leading his side to a series win over Australia in a series consisting of at least five T20Is.

He repeated the feat by beating Australia once again in a 5-match T20I series in 2025, this time in Australia.

After his full-time appointment in July 2024, Surya guided the Men in Blue to a series sweep in Sri Lanka. This marked India’s first bilateral T20I series victory against the Lankan Lions in Sri Lanka (minimum two-match series).

In November 2024, Surya became the second captain to take India to a T20I series victory in South Africa.

The success continued in 2025 with a home T20I series win against England, followed by him leading India to a championship-winning season in the Asia Cup 2025.

T20I Captaincy Achievements – Compared with Rohit and Virat

Surya is the only Indian captain not to lose any bilateral series (captained in all matches of the series).

Surya won 16 of his first 20 matches, the joint most by an Indian skipper in their first 20 T20Is, along with Rohit Sharma.

Earlier in 2025, Surya became the fourth Indian captain to claim 10 wins at home in T20I cricket.

Surya is the second Indian skipper to win multiple five-match bilateral T20I series after Virat Kohli.

Suryakumar is the third Indian captain to win at least one T20I series each against Australia (twice), England, and South Africa (minimum two-match series).
