Deontay Wilder has vowed to dethrone Oleksandr Usyk, should they meet next.
Usyk, the unified WBC, IBF and WBA ‘super’ heavyweight champion, called for a clash with former titlist, Wilder earlier this month after opting against a mandatory defence of his WBO crown against Fabio Wardley, who is now the WBO holder.
Wilder has confirmed that negotiations are underway for a showdown with the Ukrainian and has promised that he’ll become a two-time world champion.
“It was sweet music to my ears,” the 40-year-old told IBA Boxing.
“It’s a blessing for me to be honest, because I never get opportunities.
“But when I look at this opportunity I’m like ‘wow’.
“Just the excitement it’s drawn for boxing fans has been amazing and I don’t doubt that it’s not going to happen.
“Especially at this time of negotiations, it’s looking very promising.
“This is something that I need.
“I’m looking forward to it.
“Hopefully negotiations go just as smoothly as it’s going now.
“Everything is agreed upon fairly.
“I’m sorry but the world will see and the new.”

Wilder made 10 defences of his WBC belt before losing it to Tyson Fury.
‘The Bronze Bomber’ suffered back-to-back defeats to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, but returned to winning ways with a seventh round stoppage of Tyrrell Herndon in Kansas in June.
Usyk became a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion with a fifth round knockout of Daniel Dubois in their rematch in July.
The 38-year-old relinquished his WBO belt last month, with Wardley elevated to full champion.

Usyk admits he had no interest in a meeting with the Ipswich man, despite his stoppage victory over Joseph Parker in October.
“This is a sport and a business,” he told Boxing King Media.
“If Parker won, for me it’s interesting, but Wardley won and for me it’s not interesting.
“Maybe later we fight together in a big fight.”
