After a flurry of conflicting reports about the match order for Saturday Night’s Main Event, John Cena himself has finally set the record straight — and it looks like he’s getting the sendoff fans hoped for.
Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show on December 12, 2025, Cena confirmed that his retirement match against GUNTHER is currently scheduled to go on last.
“At this point,” Cena said, “the match is closing the show.”
This update directly contradicts earlier claims that the bout would open the December 13 event, which airs exclusively on Peacock. Those initial reports, attributed to Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline, suggested WWE was letting Cena kick things off with no time limits, free of the traditional network constraints.
But that version of the card has since been disputed. On December 11, Andrew Baydala reported that, based on insider knowledge, Cena’s farewell was not planned for the opening slot. And now, with Cena’s own confirmation, the main event position is all but locked in — barring any last-minute reshuffles.
The rest of the show features some heavy hitters, including WWE Champion Cody Rhodes vs. Oba Femi (non-title), Bayley vs. Sol Ruca, and AJ Styles & Dragon Lee vs. Je’Von Evans and Leon Slater. But no match carries the weight of Cena’s final appearance — and now fans can expect it to cap off the night in proper main event fashion.
