January has been an exciting month for the world of tennis, with Novak Djokovic enjoying a winning run at the Australian Open, beating Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-final to reach the last four.

The 37-year-old Serb, a former world number one, was in such great form that it looked like he may win the title, but sadly, he suffered heartbreak when he announced a hamstring injury that meant he couldn’t go on in the tournament.

Italian Jannik Sinner, 23, current world number one in men’s singles, went on to successfully defend his title in a thrilling final, when he beat number two Alexander Zverev only a year after winning his first Grand Slam title.

Meanwhile, American Coco Gauff came up with an idea for a new tennis championship: a women’s version of the Laver Cup. The men’s three-day tournament sees a selection of players from Europe play a team from the rest of the world in singles and doubles matches. However, Gauff wants a team of US women to play a team from the rest of the world, as Gauff, Madison Keys, Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro are currently ranked in the world’s top ten.

With an exciting series of approaching tennis tournaments, 2025 looks set to be a bumper year, with more than 100 events being held over 29 countries including a series of ATP Masters 1000 championships; the prestigious Grand Slam on clay, the Roland Garros; and Wimbledon on the famous grass courts of the All England Club to name but a few.
