Kmet Dealing With Injuries as Loveland Emerges for Bears
Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet appeared on Tuesday’s injury report with ankle and knee issues. The veteran was listed as a limited participant during the team’s walkthrough practice. Kmet’s availability for Saturday’s game against the Green Bay Packers remains uncertain. The Bears and Packers will meet at Soldier Field in a crucial NFC North matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:20 PM Central Time.
The tight end caught two passes for 28 yards in Sunday’s 31-3 victory over the Cleveland Browns at Soldier Field. He has recorded 24 receptions for 301 yards and two touchdowns on 39 targets this season.
Rookie Colston Loveland has emerged as the Bears’ primary receiving tight end in 2025. The first-round selection has posted 39 receptions for 498 yards and four touchdowns through 13 games. Chicago selected Loveland with the 10th overall pick in April’s draft. Kmet could see increased targets if the Bears are without both Luther Burden III and Rome Odunze on Saturday. Burden suffered an ankle injury during Sunday’s game and did not practice Tuesday. Odunze has missed the last two games with a foot injury and also did not practice.
The Bears enter Week 16 with a 10-4 record and lead the NFC North. Green Bay sits at 9-4-1 following a loss to Denver last Sunday. The Packers defeated Chicago 28-21 in their first meeting two weeks ago at Lambeau Field.
Kmet is in his sixth season with the Bears. He has appeared in 97 career games and recorded 282 receptions for 2,893 yards and 20 touchdowns. The Notre Dame product signed a four-year contract extension worth 50 million dollars in July 2023. Loveland began the season as Kmet’s backup but has taken over as the featured receiving tight end. The Michigan product caught the game-winning touchdown pass against Cincinnati in Week 9. He hauled in a 58-yard score with 17 seconds remaining to seal a 47-42 victory.
Saturday’s game represents a pivotal matchup in the division race. The winner will take sole possession of first place in the NFC North. The Bears close their regular season with road games at San Francisco and Detroit.
