Head-on collision in Holyoke kills one, injures three

HOLYOKE — A head-on collision on Route 5 in Holyoke left one driver dead and sent three others to the hospital Saturday, Dec. 13, authorities said.

The crash happened around 11:35 a.m. near the 700 block of Northampton Street on Dec. 13.

Firefighters pulled the man from his car, and he was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead later that afternoon, according to the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police.

Investigators believe he crossed the center line and hit another car head-on, authorities said.

Three people in that car were taken to the hospital to be checked for injuries. A third car was also involved but was not damaged, and its driver was not hurt, authorities said.

State police processed the scene and their CARS Unit is investigating the crash, authorities said.
