Salman Butt, a former captain of the Pakistan cricket team, has criticized Mohammed Shami for his disrespectful remarks about the legendary Pakistani batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq. Shami recently responded to unfounded accusations made by a former Pakistani player, who claimed that Indian bowlers were cheating during the T20 World Cup 2024.
Inzamam suggested that the umpires needed to be more vigilant when the Indian team was bowling because they seemed to be receiving unusual assistance with the ball. In a podcast with Shubhankar Mishra, Shami commented on these accusations, saying that such foolish behavior should end and people should not be tricked by such claims.
The person who runs the show talked about how people have been saying that Pakistan’s cricket team picks players based on who they like, not how well they play. This made Shami suggest that they should focus more on choosing players fairly. But this didn’t make Butt happy. He said that Inzamam was picked for the team because he played well, not because someone liked him. Butt also said that Shami’s words were not nice and he shouldn’t have said them.
“Mohammed Shami said some things about Inzamam-ul-Haq that weren’t nice. He suggested that Pakistan chooses players because of personal connections, not their skills, and I believe that’s not right. It’s not right because if you check Inzamam’s history, he was chosen for the team because of how well he played. He was even left out when he didn’t perform well. Shami’s words were not respectful, and he shouldn’t have said those things,” Butt explained on his YouTube channel.
Moving forward, Butt mentioned that the dispute could have been prevented, and since Shami is a well-known bowler, he should have avoided making those comments.
“There was a controversy that could have been avoided. Many people made comments, including Inzamam and Rohit Sharma, who also explained his position, and the issue was resolved. However, making remarks about choosing players just because they are related is inappropriate. This kind of talk doesn’t fit Mohammed Shami’s reputation. He is a respected bowler, much like Inzamam was a respected captain,” Butt continued.
