The Texas A&M Volleyball team has officially rewritten history. Head coach Jamie Morrison’s girls clinched the top honors at the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championships, as they defeated the 2020 champions, the Kentucky Wildcats, by 3-0. However, Morrison has yet to grasp the feeling of winning this tournament, as he credited his team for achieving the impossible.
Texas A&M Volleyball Head Coach Morrison Yet To Grasp The Feeling Of Victory
During the celebrations after the final round, Morrison was asked by an ESPN journalist about his immediate reaction and whether the victory felt surreal to him. The head coach of the Aggies replied:
“I said this before, just we’ve gotten into these matches and been so present. It’s like 6 minutes later it kicks in and [cheering] we won and I’m just like like we just won a national like they’re putting on t-shirts behind me and I’m still a bit in disbelief, is the biggest thing.
“But man, I’m so proud of the group for the way that they have worked this entire season. We said it from the very beginning, if we did the right way for 7 months, this could happen and we’re here and it’s it’s all to them.”

This is only the third season for Morrison as the head coach. He had joined the maroon and white team in the 2023 season.
Texas A&M Volleyball’s Performance At the NCAA Championships Overall
Before the current edition, the Texas A&M Volleyball team’s best performance at the NCAA Championships was an Elite Eight finish on two occasions, viz. 1999 and 2001, respectively. Since 2001, the Aggies had qualified for the Round of 16 [also known as the Regional Semifinals] four times: 2003, 2009, 2019, and most recently, in the previous edition, i.e., the 2024 Championships.
However, when the Maroon and White team overcame the challenge from last edition’s runners-up, the Louisville Cardinals, in the round of 16 game this year, coach Morrison made it clear: this team will not bow out easily. The top-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers, which looked near invincible till the quarterfinals, learnt this the hard way, as they were upstaged by the Aggies 2-3 in the quarterfinals.
Following the upset victory, coach Morrison decided to dream a little extra when the Aggies faced the Pittsburgh Panthers in the semifinals. Skipper Kyndal Stowers and her teammates didn’t disappoint him either, as they swept through the Panthers to qualify for a historic final. The Wildcats provided some challenge in the first set, but once the Aggies took the lead, there was no stopping them.
