Sri Lanka announced 16 member squad for 3 match T 20 series against India

Sri Lanka has selected a team of 16 players to compete against India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, in a series of three T20 cricket matches from July 27 to 30 in Pallekele. As anticipated, Sri Lanka has appointed middle-order batter Charith Asalanka as the captain for this series. Asalanka is succeeding Wanindu Hasaranga, who stepped down from the captaincy following Sri Lanka’s early elimination from the T20 World Cup in June, which took place in the USA and the West Indies.

Similar to Sri Lanka, India has chosen a new captain for their T20 international team, Suryakumar Yadav, after Rohit Sharma stepped down from the role following their World Cup victory. Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir has joined the senior national team as their new head coach, and Sanath Jayasuriya has been named the temporary head coach for Sri Lanka’s next series.

Sri Lanka has selected a strong team that combines both experienced players and younger talent.

Former team leader Wanindu Hasaranga will continue to be a key player on the team, which will be led by coach Jayasuriya. Hasaranga took 15 wickets in the recently finished Lanka Premier League season.

Sri Lanka removed experienced all-rounder Angelo Matthews from the team but kept their former captain Dasun Shanaka. Dinesh Chandimal has returned to the squad after being left out for the T20 World Cup.

Stars from Chennai Super Kings, Matheesha Pathirana and Maheesh Theekshana, have been selected for the team after their impressive performance in the Lanka Premier League. Pathirana took 15 wickets in 9 games and was second in the list of top wicket-takers in LPL 2024, while Theekshana took 10 wickets in the same number of matches.
