The Los Angeles Lakers’ poor form continues as the year comes to a close.
The Los Angeles Lakers failed to impress during their NBA Christmas Day battle against the Houston Rockets.

JJ Redick was FURIOUS after LA Lakers’ Christmas Day defeat vs. Houston Rockets!
This marked the Lakers’ third consecutive defeat as they are now 19-10 for the season. Following their most recent defeat, NBA expert Kevin O’Connor dropped a concerning prediction about the Lakers.
LA Lakers need to make trades, says Kevin O’Connor

Although the Lakers still remain the fourth seed in the Western Conference, some major frustration is building up due to their recent slump.
For instance, head coach JJ Redick is calling out players left and right. Coming to O’Connor’s comments, he is certain the Lakers’ front office will engage in trades.
“Trades are coming in Los Angeles. Just a matter of who and when. Without them, this team has no chance of winning a title this year,” O’Connor wrote on X.
He added: “That much is obvious after watching the Lakers as of late and listening to what JJ Redick said postgame.”
The Lakers are still top four in the conference standings because of their electrifying start to the 2025-26 NBA season.
But as the season has progressed, it’s become obvious that there are too many issues with the current Lakers team, making them incapable of having a deep postseason run, let alone winning it all.
LA Lakers have many tradeable assets
Assuming the Lakers do engage in a trade, they have no shortage of assets on the current roster.
For instance, the expiring contracts of Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, and Maxi Kleber can be utilized to trade for better bench players.

Of course, the Lakers’ core of Doncic, LeBron James, Austin Reaves, and Deandre Ayton isn’t expected to be moved.
The team could also trade players who have fallen out of Redick’s rotation, like Dalton Knecht and Jarred Vanderbilt.
