Patino sings own chant ‘hating PNE’; Grant McCann “worried” as Doncaster lose to Blackpool

Charlie Patino sings his own chant ‘hating PNE’ while Grant McCann admits he is “worried” as his Doncaster side lose to Blackpool.

Blackpool picked up a 1-0 victory thanks to early substitute Tom Bloxham from close range to lift them out of the League One relegation zone.

Doncaster offered little threat, with their best chance cleared off the line by Olly Casey, McCann’s side with just one win in their last 15 league games.

It was quite the atmosphere at Bloomfield Road, with Patino joining in with the fans, chanting: “He’s Charlie Patino, he knew the place to go. Although he’d never seen, the boys in Tangerine.

“He felt it everywhere, he breathed in the sea air. And then he said to me, I f*****g hate PNE.”

McCann said, per Doncaster Free Press: “The team’s not winning games, so I’m worried. My team’s not winning football games.

“We’re not producing. None of us are producing. So all we can do is analyse it, look at it, try and go again and try to get a team on the pitch that can go to Stockport and play with a wee bit more expression. Only two weeks ago when we were at Cardiff we played with it (expression) but we couldn’t defend.

“The same thing has happened here today. We just didn’t play with any expression, apart from the last 20-30 minutes of the game. “But ultimately we’ve conceded another poor goal. It’s difficult to stand there and see that. It’s hard. One player has to stick and go through with their job. It’s as simple as that. Unfortunately it doesn’t happen.

“We’re just too safe as a team. I said to the players at half-time ‘you’re matching them up but why are you not attacking them?’

“But it’s where we are at this moment in time. We’re too safe. We’re not in positions really at times to receive and we’re a little bit in our shell. So it’s important that we try and get them out of that.

“It’s important that we get players on the pitch who are brave because at this moment in time I’m not seeing enough of it. I’m not seeing people wanting it and wanting the ball to get on and make things happen. We’d rather just get rid of it and then go from there.

So we’ve just got to keep working. We’ve got to keep working, we’ve got to try and find a balance and find a starting 11 that can keep us stronger for larger spells and games but also carry the threat at the top end.”

Blackpool’s Ian Evatt said, per the club website: “We dug deep. In the first half we were really comfortable, we were in control of the game. We needed to put more energy into it to try and get the game over with. When it’s only 1-0, the opposition can have a right go at you and they did in the last 20 minutes.

“It’s a huge three points there’s no denying that, now we have to get ready for Monday.

“The goal was great, it was straight off the training ground.

“We’ve worked on that specific movement with Danny Imray and it was great composure to find Tom Bloxham in the box. I just wanted to go for the kill a little bit but it’s hard when they Doncaster banked up so much with so many bodies behind the ball.

“We didn’t quite create enough to get that second goal, but we got the job done.

“Credit to Doncaster they had a right go in the last twenty minutes.

“Yes I want us to be open, expensive and play attractive football but you have to do the hard yards as well in games. You have to win ugly and I thought today we did that. In the second half when we had to dig-in we did.

“We’ve got a lot of special players. It’s not about individuals it’s about the team. Clean sheets should be celebrated by forwards as well as defenders. I love that last ditch defending from Olly Casey too to clear the ball off the line.

“Today they’ve given us everything, that’s all we can ask for.

“The supporters backing the players and helping us get over the line was there for all to see.

“I don’t think we win that game without the supporters today. Their positivity and their encouragement just helped our players see it through when we looked a bit physically jaded. I have so much respect and gratitude for our supporters for listening to what I’ve been saying.

“If we can stick together like that, this clubs going one place and one place only.

On an update on Dale Taylor, who was forced off early through injury: “It doesn’t look great, it looks like he’s done his metatarsal.

“Hopefully it’s just a straight fracture, which is still six-to-eight weeks. If it’s surgical it’s a lot longer than that. We’re going to help him, we’re going to give him a lot of love and positivity.

“He’s going to be a big player for this football club, there’s no doubt about that.”
