Defending champions Atlanta Drive GC extended their unbeaten start to the 2026 TGL season with a 7-4 win over The Bay Golf Club on January 6.
Having won their opening game against New York Golf Club in a rematch of the 2025 final, the champions moved to 2-0, while The Bay slipped to defeat in their first match of the new Season 2 campaign.
It was a seventh straight TGL win for Atlanta Drive, who won their final five games of the inaugural season to claim the title.
How The Night Unfolded
Atlanta fell 2-1 behind early on as The Bay used Hammers to bank points before the defending champions steadied to flip the first session and edge in front 3-2.
Chris Gotterup produced the shot of the night at No. 6, standing with both feet in the bunker and the ball perched on the lip before holing a miraculous chip that helped swing momentum back to Atlanta.
Gotterup admitted: “It was a lot of luck involved. We had to call timeout because I didn’t know what I was going to do. Sometimes you get lucky in this game. You take it when you can.”
Gotterup was once against in as an alternative, playing alongside Billy Horschel and the returning Patrick Cantlay, who missed the opening win.
In singles, Shane Lowry – playing with Ludvig Aberg and Wyndham Clark for The Bay – hit back on No. 10 to level the overall score at 3-3.
That hole win cost his side their final Hammer and removed their key scoring weapon down the stretch.
Cantlay, returning from injury, then chipped in from around 40 feet for birdie late in what was a pivotal moment that stopped The Bay from drawing level again and kept Atlanta in control.
The contest officially ended on No. 13 when Horschel rolled in a seven‑footer for birdie on the Straight Up hole, securing both the final point and the match for Atlanta.
The Bay’s aggressive Hammer usage was a double‑edged sword: two early throws helped them build a 2-1 cushion but by the time Lowry won No. 10 in singles they had burned their last Hammer.
Atlanta’s refusal to accept certain Hammers proved just as important, particularly on Bay Breaker and other key holes.
