Kylian Mbappe is easily the most important player at Real Madrid right now, and he is dealing with an injury. For a player who scored 59 goals in all competitions for the club in 2025, it is safe to say that Los Blancos will be praying for him to be fit soon.
Real Madrid Not Ruling Out Kylian Mbappe Yet
Xabi Alonso’s side face Atletico Madrid in the semifinal of the Spanish Super Cup on Thursday, January 8, and Mbappe has been ruled out of the game. The Frenchman missed the win over Real Betis earlier this week due to a sprain in his left knee and has not traveled with the team to Saudi Arabia.
However, Mario Cortegana of The Athletic reports that the medical team is working to ensure that he makes it to the final on Sunday, should Los Blancos qualify. They claim that the club left two important physios, Sebastian Devillaz and Guillermo Zurdo, in Spain to work with the Frenchman.
Their main role this week is to aid the striker’s rehabilitation and do everything possible to get him fit in time for the Spanish Super Cup final. Alonso spoke about the forward’s health ahead of the semifinal, confirming that they do not yet have a clear update.
The manager added that they are not thinking about the former PSG star right now, as they are focused on the Atletico Madrid clash. He said:
“The situation depends on the moment; we have to assess it. We’re here, and we want to get him back as soon as possible. Our focus is on the semi-final and winning so we can reach the final.”
Los Blancos cannot take their derby rivals lightly, having lost 5-2 to them earlier this season. The coach was quizzed about what he plans to do differently in the game, especially with his main forward out injured, and the Spaniard said:
“Every match needs to be analysed, and defeats even more so. Things we don’t want to repeat. We’ll keep those things to ourselves. I’m convinced this will be different. These are things that evolve throughout the season. We don’t see it as a complete difference, but they are things we have to analyze and they are important for tomorrow.”
Real Madrid will turn to Gonzalo Garcia to lead the attack once again. The youngster, who impressed at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States during the summer, scored a hat-trick against Real Betis earlier this week to seal a 5-1 win.
