Mercedes Moné is tired of the disrespect, so she is taking a break from AEW.
The CEO won the TBS Championship from Willow Nightingale in her debut match for AEW, then she carried the title for 584 days before losing the belt back to Willow. In that time, Mercedes takes credit for building the women’s division. How do her fellow wrestlers thank her? With constant disrespect. Just look at this past week on Dynamite when Willow, Kris Statlander, and Harley Cameron slammed her on top of cake.
During Collision (Jan. 10, 2026), AEW aired a scathing promo from Mercedes still caked with cake. No matter what has happened (with recent losses), Mercedes will always be the greatest. It’s time to teach the locker a room lesson. She is taking a break from AEW to show them how she elevated the division. When Mercedes returns, she will be collecting more than titles.
Ultimo Moné still has a bunch of belts in her possession. My unofficial count is 8, but I may be missing some. It will be interesting to see if the CEO quietly drops them back for return matches in those indie promotions. The highest profile championship still held by Mercedes is the CMLL Women’s World Championship. Defending that title would be big news from CMLL with promotion to sell tickets.
How long would you like Mercedes Moné to be away from AEW? What do you think will be the story objective for the CEO’s focus upon return?
