The ‘nearly ready’ National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, which is set to open later this week, pleased former India captain and current BCCI Apex Council member Dilip Vengsarkar on Wednesday.
Shortly after the nearly 20-minute virtual Apex Council meeting, Vengsarkar talked with PTI. Last week, the ex-chief selector visited Bengaluru to inspect the cutting-edge institution near the city’s international airport.
The new NCA has three fields, forty-five practice fields, eight indoor nets, an Olympic-sized pool, a sixteen thousand square foot gym, and a rehabilitation center.
“Last week, I was there. Its infrastructure is excellent. There are three large pitches, 45 net wickets, excellent wickets, and an enormous gym. Everything is cutting edge and nearly finished, according to Vengsarkar.
“The grounds are stunning and are prepared. The main ground’s edge is nearly eighty-five yards. “I’m confident that all the work will be finished by now,” he stated prior to Friday’s inauguration.
Members of the Apex Council and delegates from BCCI’s state units have been invited to the NCA opening, which is set to take place one day prior to the AGM.
An update on the development of indoor cricket academies in six Northeastern states was also scheduled for the agenda. Back in May, the BCCI had set the groundwork for these initiatives.
There, too, things are moving more quickly at work. Everything is proceeding according to plan, Vengsarkar said.
The indoor cricket academies, which would have its headquarters in Shillong, Itanagar, Kohima, Aizawl, Imphal, and Gangtok, will cater to players from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim.
On the proposed renovation of the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, Vengsarkar added: “It is not much actually. They have not renovated since long time so they decided to some renovation of the entire office.”
