Renowned cricket analyst, Aakash Chopra, recently discussed where Delhi Capitals would slot KL Rahul in their batting lineup against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their clash on Thursday, April 10. Chopra’s comments came after vice-captain, Faf du Plessis, was reported to be fit for DC’s clash against his former franchise.
With du Plessis making his way back, Chopra mulled over Rahul’s batting position considering the former Proteas batter to partner along with Jake Fraser-McGurk as opening partners.
“What should you expect from the Delhi team? There are a few questions for them. The Delhi Capitals have won three out of three and are the only undefeated team, but who will open? It’s a massive question. Faf du Plessis should be available now. Where will KL Rahul go if Jake Fraser-McGurk opens with Faf du Plessis? You made Rahul open, and he scored 77 and gave a ‘Player of the Match’ performance. However, what after that?,” shared Chopra in a video posted on his YouTube channel.
Chopra further pondered Abishek Porel’s spot in the batting order, if at all Rahul comes in at any other position other than as an opener.
“Will you keep moving him up and down the order? We were talking to him, and he said he thought they would make him open and was ready to play a new role when he was given that, as his name is Rahul and he does all the jobs the teams needs him to do. If he comes at No. 4 or No. 3, where does Abishek Porel play?,” added Chopra.
Notably, Rahul bagged the POTM accolade for his majestically-paced 77-run knock off 51 deliveries against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk on Saturday, April 5. du Plessis was sidelined from the CSK game owing to an injury which he picked up ahead of the fixture.
