US cricketer Aaron Jones is in a heap of trouble after being hit with five serious charges that accuse him of breaching Cricket West Indies (CWI) and ICC rules on anti-corruption. As a result of these allegations, Jones has been slapped with a immediate ban and can’t play any cricket from today onwards. He’s got 14 days to respond to the charges, according to the ICC website.
Its these charges that happened during the Bim10 tournament in 2023-24, falling under the CWI anti-corruption code, that have got Jones in this mess – and a further two charges are related to his performances in international matches, under the jurisdiction of the ICC Code.
Jones was in Sri Lanka for a training camp with a group of 18 USA players, all gearing up for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Jones has been accused of the following:
Being part of a plot to fix the result of matches in the Bim10 tournament (Article 2.1.1 of the CWI Code). He allegedly tried to make the outcome of those games his own way, or was involved in plans to do so.
Failing to come clean about getting approached to engage in activity that would break the CWI Code (Article 2.4.2 of the CWI Code).
Not cooperating fully with the people who do the detective work on anti-corruption cases (Article 2.4.4 in the CWI Code). Jones was supposed to give them the lowdown on what was going on, but he didn’t.
Not telling the ICC’s anti-corruption folk about any invitations he got to get involved in some shady business that might breach the ICC Code (Article 2.4.4 of the ICC Code). He had a responsibility to spill the beans, but he didn’t do it.
Putting a spanner in the works of the ICC’s investigation by hiding or messing with evidence (Article 2.4.7 of the ICC Code).
The ICC put out a statement saying that these five charges are just part of a larger probe that’s still ongoing. The outcome of this investigation will likely result in more charges being levelled against other people, and its possible that Jones will face more serious punishment as a result of not cooperating.
The statement also went on to say that Jones has been provisionally suspended from cricket with immediate effect and has 14 days from January 28th 2026 to respond to the charges.
Jones has played in 52 ODIs and 48 T20Is for the USA since his international debut back in 2019.
