Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir is currently receiving criticism for his comments to former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, since he state that Virat Kohli is lacking in Test centuries. Before leaving for Australia, Gambhir stated the Ricky should worry about Australian cricket and not Indian cricket.
A few days after this incident, Ponting’s former teammates Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden came to defend their former captain. They both state that Ricky can say anything he wants.
“Punter can comment on anything he wants,” said Gilchrist on the Club Prairie Fire podcast.
“I think he has earned the right to comment on most aspects of cricket. I love this, this is going to get the popcorn out for the rest of the summer,” he added.
Hayden then agreed with the statement of Gilchrist as he said that former cricketers are paid to give their opinions once they turn commentators.
“We are paid to make an opinion, make a comment and make a call about the game we know and love,” the former opener said.
